Free Read Friyay!

Blessings Fam!

Happy Friyay!!! So this is definitely a Friday freebie. Some of you may have already seen this as it was originally posted on fb by my church fam, but if you haven’t… it’s a pretty good read that I wrote in January, but bc I was fasting from social media (amongst other things) I never posted. Pray you enjoy and have a great weekend. Remember that YOU. ARE. LOVED! K byyyeeeeeee!

“I don’t read the bible because I don’t get it. It’s too hard to understand.”

I hear that often when talking to young believers, and I’m almost certain at one time those words were also floating on the edge of my consciousness begging for an opportunity to come out so someone could help me. I began Google(ing) scriptures, I eventually downloaded an app. I wanted to jot notes, so I ordered a journaling bible making myself believe that if I had one, I’d read it more without being distracted by my notifications going off. It worked for a while, because it was new, and pretty, and I could color the pages not only with markers but with my words. Yet the thing about reading the bible is, if your heart isn’t in it and you aren’t open to understanding, then that desire probably won’t last long.

I (initially) had trouble connecting to the old testament, until I figured out what worked for me. What resonated with the person I am. For me, that was the extent of my imagination. Being able to visualize what I was reading and playing it back in my mind using real world (real time) examples. I imagine walking down the street with a close friend and being separated by chariot and horses of fire. Then watching my friend being taken up in a whirlwind. [2 Kings 2:11] Wait. What? Let me read that again. Trying to identify with how Elisha felt, yet delighted in the strategic magnificence of God…

I remember during a conversation a few years ago someone telling me about how God gave them melodies to scriptures. Where I read words, they heard lyrics and for a season my prayer was that. Not that I’d too hear lyrics but that I’d be able to understand (even more so) in my own way. Enter here my new found love of Psalms. As a lover of poetry, it was shocking to me that I didn’t understand the beauty of Psalms, of Job, Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, or Songs of Songs as a collection of wisdom and lyrical writing and worship and philosophical reflection. Yet now that I do, taking that wonder and applying it to other areas of the bible, learning the historical values of the text, diving into the background comes a little easier.

So to those asking where do I start? I can’t answer that for you, but I can suggest that you begin where you find yourself most, where you identify yourself the clearest and allow God’s word to guide you from there.

The bible is big, and vast, and neverending in revelation.

In this time of fasting and prayer and communion with God I pray that God reveals more of Himself to you through the reading and understanding of His word.
Trusting that by leaning on God for understanding, by faith, He will reveal His words to you in a manner that you understand. Amen. I’ll leave you with this…

Proverbs 2:1-6 CSB.
My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 listening closely to wisdom
and directing your heart to understanding;
3 furthermore, if you call out to insight
and lift your voice to understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it like hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and discover the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.

Shot Clock

Hey Fam,

I’m going to absolutely skip the awkwardness of explaining why I’ve been gone so long and where I’ve been… Maybe we’ll chat about that next week, but for now, let’s check in about this dwindling shot clock towards the end of the first quarter. At the beginning of the year, it is so easy to make resolutions, plans, and goals. What becomes more difficult is following up on these things. Checking where we are in relation to when we wanted to achieve our goals. In twenty-four days, we reach the end of the first quarter of 2019. So, where are you? Have you started chipping away at your lists, is anything crossed out?

My friends and I are pretty good with holding each other accountable… on every level. Don’t just assume because you threw something random out on group chat that it isn’t going to pop back up a month from now. Since we’re family here I’m doing the same thing!

One of the reasons that I decided to blog today is because a few of you have been holding me accountable. Asking questions like, “when are you going to be blogging again? When is your next book coming out?” While I could continue in the abstract or speak out now about everything, I’m also learning that not everything needs to be explained. Some things just need to be seen. That being said, I have some pretty major goals this year and while I’m holding them pretty close to home, I feel confident in letting you in on one…I will release an e-book later this year…

Can I share with you my biggest challenge?
PROCRASTINATION.
I’m not in the market for a new best friend, but with the way that thing keeps hanging around you’d think we signed pacts with each other. I’m not amused! Exactly the opposite in fact. I spend a good chunk of my day listening to ministries via the web, podcast, reading books, and pretty much avoiding anything that looks like editing…

but there’s something about being exposed that forces you to see what has always been in front of you.

So can I encourage you today?
Whatever you need to complete that feels big, shift your perspective until it looks and feels small. Work on it in chunks and never stop moving forward! Stagnation, procrastination, and fear are dream killers and we don’t accept that here!

Walk boldly into the areas of your life that you want to conquer and remember that you CANNOT fail at your purpose. You are so very loved!

I’m excited to see what you make happen this quarter and this year! Email me, message me, dm me (lol) all of the great things you are doing and I’d love to support. As always, I pray that you all have been great! I hope you have a great week & I’ll leave you with this…

1 Corinthians 15:58 CSB
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.

P.s. in basketball you have 24 seconds on the shot clock before the ball falls out of your possession. That’s where the Inspo for this title came from. K. Byeeeee lol

Remember 2015?

Hey Fam!

So today I looked at the calendar… and while that in itself is not a post worthy experience, it made me realize that today, 3 years ago, I published my first blog post! Some of you have been with me since the beginning and others have hopped on along this rollercoaster of a journey. Together we have share many memories and you were even along for the ride when I published my first book!

I truly appreciate you all!

While I’ve pretty much been quiet this whole year, it’s not because I’ve been ignoring you, it’s because I’ve been working! Life is taking me to unexpected things… God is taking me unexpected places and while I’d LOVE to share those places and things with you, I need to understand them myself first! Pray for my clarity (lol)

I won’t hold you, I simply wanted to say thanks for rocking with me!

Anyway, I love you all and I pray that you have a wonderful Sunday evening and Monday morning! I leave you with this…

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NLT
1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.

P.S. Anyone down for a free poetry eBook? Let me know!

What if you… Believe There is?

Hey Fam!

It’s been a little over a month since I’ve checked in with you! I pray that all is well and that you’ve been having a great Holiday Season so far!

I’m not sure about you, but 2017 was definitely a year of transition for me. So many up and downs, times I lacked focus, so many things from my past resurfacing as a tool for writing. So much growth, so many growing pains, so much… Love! I really want to share that with you 🤗.

This has definitely been my most inconsistent blogging year! Sometimes I felt like a total failure in this area. I thought that I had to have everything perfect in order to blog. That it had to be a certain length, right time of day, etc etc. I lost what this blog was founded on, I lost my voice. In the midst of analytics and trying to grow a brand and juggling careers that have nothing to do with each other, I lost how much I simply loved writing and sharing with you all my lessons and wins. At the end of the day, at the end of the calender year, I’m reminded that it’s you who matter. Yes, you that’s reading this right now! At some point today, you decided that whatever I had to say was important enough to read and you’ve given me something that you can never get back, your time.

On the other hand, I’ve learned so much about myself this year… I’ve grown closer to God on a level that I’ve never experienced before and I’m so excited to continue to explore! My writing has increased greatly and my ability to show you what I’m feeling and where I’m at through spoken word has allowed me to touch many lives. For this, I regret nothing. The “Over It” series is not over! We have pressed pause but I still receive (over it) suggestions from readers and close friends that want me to unpack the meaning of what we’ve been taught.

As this is my final blog for the year, I offer you this… Never allow anyone or anything to make you stop questioning the boundaries humanity often places on situations. We are so quick to believe that something is impossible, but what if it isn’t? What if you could have that new job, car, house, dream, vision, business? What if it’s already yours and you just need to claim it? What if we simply needed help with our unbelief?

In 2018 I challenge you to be the thing you need to believe. If you need to believe in hope, then I challenge you to be hope for someone else. If you need to believe in change, I challenge you to be change. If you need to believe in love, I challenge YOU to be LOVE!

We are all here looking for connection. Often times for a feeling we’ve never felt. Chasing what the world tells us we should want and then going after it full steam, but feelings are fleeting. If I can temporarily provide that in these writings, then great, I’m glad I made you feel… Something. What I can’t give you here, I can offer you in an introduction to a God who knows no bounds. Who is sovereign, and loves so much deeper than we ever could! If you are in the Clarksville area and don’t have a place to bring in the new year, I invite you to worship with my family. 1215 Fort Campbell Blvd # B, Clarksville, TN 37042. Watch Night service begins at 930 pm.

Anyway, I love you all and I pray that you have a wonderful new year! I leave you with this…

1 John 4:16 NLT
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.

Light over Darkness

Hey FAM! It’s Thursday evening! So excited to be back! I took a few weeks off to launch the logo, celebrate birthdays, and deal with sickness 😒… Nevertheless, here we are ☺. I pray you all had an incredible week and are looking forward to the weekend. Sooo let’s chat “Over it”…

This weeks “Over it” is light over darkness! We chatted last time about being able to endure, even when failure keeps rearing its head! In that endurance, it’s important to keep shining the light on the inside of us.

John 1:5 NLT — The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

I remember the first time I heard my pastor speaking about being an agent of change [Salt + Light], and the first time I saw a demonstration of how darkness can’t overcome light… Those moments were the ones that spoke to me the most about how I am to demonstrate the same thing everyday of my life.

In John 8:12 (NLT) it says Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Being light and speaking life goes hand in hand, but sometimes we forget, allowing our circumstances to cloud what we know. The other day I was talking to my uncle and he was asking me how I felt.

I responded by saying, “I feel disconnected.”
He then said, “but what do you know?” Smiling I said, “I know I’m connected.”

Many times, a simple reminder of who we are and what we know to be true can shift our whole perspective of where we are currently.

So my question for you tonight is, are you walking in light? And are you bringing the light that you carry on the inside of you to dark situations, equipped with the knowledge that darkness can NEVER overtake light.

Anyway Fam, I love you all and I pray that you all have a wonderful weekend. I leave you with this…

Matthew 5:14-16 NLT
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.
