How’s your day going? I pray that it has been as productive as mine! Well… Let’s get to it…
This week we’re talking about Commitment over Motivation! I’m going to throw a few other terms to go along with that and I’ll pick them back up in a few (gym, blog, study).
Commitment is defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause. On the other hand motivation is defined as the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. This week is important because it caused me to look at some areas of my life in a way that I hadn’t before…(going back to those words from earlier).
Why is my workout and eating habits not consistent? Well, to be totally honest I haven’t always been committed to the cause. Sometimes I see a picture of myself and think, “girl you need to do something about this,” but after a few days I’m like ehhh I’m over it. And then there’s Meal prep! Even I can argue that it takes too long. Orrr I can use the favorite excuse of EVERYBODY that’s unmotivated , “I’m too busy.” The truth is, we make time for what’s important to us. If I’m committed to working out then I’ll make time to work out. If I’m committed to healthy eating then I’d suck it up and do meal prep. If I had been committed to making a lifestyle change then the results would have been different.
Motivation will only take you so far… because what happens the day you aren’t motivated? It likely doesn’t get done!
Another one for me was blogging… Actually, let’s go ahead and add writing to that too! Many of the inconsistencies stemmed from me not feeling like I had something thought-provoking to say. Once I blocked out those thoughts and said, “okay, just write,” those moments ended with some of my best work.
Commitment over motivation.
As for studying, well let’s just say this… I’m well informed on what I want to be informed on. When I know enough of a certain subject, I sometimes move on to something else. I’m motivated to learn some things, committed to others. Now that I’ve had time to examine those areas in a new light, it’s been good for me.
Sooo, by show of hands, who can use some self-improvement? Great, thought you’d raise your hand (lol…mentally of course). What are some areas in your life that you aren’t fully committed to? And why? Remember that commitment is also like a promise. Don’t let yourself down! Let’s talk about how we can hold ourselves more accountable.
