Love over Hate

Hey FAM,

Super excited that its Thursday again! I pray your week has been exciting and Kingdom filled, and that you’re ready for another “Over it.”

This week we’re talking about Love over Hate, and though this one probably feels super straightforward… Is it, is it really? If we turn to my favorite book… The Bible… There are countless scriptures that talk about love.

We’re taught to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, we’re taught that God is love, and we’re even given a guideline of what love is in 1 Corinthians. That we could have knowledge, and wisdom, and prophecy, but without love… It means nothing!

And hate… Yikes! Intense dislike for something or someone. I feel like we understand this well, and don’t understand it at all… All at the same time. The bible tells us to not nurse hatred in our hearts for any of our relatives, and to confront people directly so we’re not held guilty of their sin… but the question I pose for you all today is… If we aren’t consistently showing love, are we showing hate?

If I’m not showing people the love of God on my job, walking down the street, in the grocery store, then what exactly am I exhibiting?

Okay, let’s consider this as well… Is the opposite of love, hate? Or is the opposite of love indifference? If it is, how can we tell the difference? And what’s worse?

I picture someone being disrespected, and when questioning the offensive party, they say, “well I don’t hate them, I just don’t like them (or don’t care for them) either.” Thanks pal, I’m sure that’s a lot better!

I’ve also heard many people over the course of my life say that in order to hate someone, you had to love them first, so does hate come from hurt? Or jealousy? Or misinformation?

To that I say this… If you’re hurt, confront (in love) the person who hurt you, and if you can’t or won’t, then forgive them. Not for them, but for you. If you’re jealous, don’t be. What God has for you will be for you. Lastly, if you’re misinformed, then get informed. It’s not okay to know that you don’t have all the information yet you’re judging the situation (or person) anyway (Or at all).

Let me just say this… Love is incredible! And it’s infectious… Just like freedom. If you see someone who is free then you also want to be free. If you see love being displayed then you want that too. Hate only causes strife and confusion, and those are NOT attributes of God!

So Fam, examine your hearts… Are you showing love on a daily basis? That’s for you to answer, but let’s purpose to operate in love (as a team)… Anyway, I pray that you all have the rest of a lovely week. And a great weekend. I love you all and I leave you with this…

1 John 2:9 NLT
If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is still living in darkness.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.
