Komplex Simplicity

Hey FAM,
Super excited to be spending another Thursday with you all! I pray your week has been exciting and purposeful, and that you’re ready for another “Over it.”I was going to begin by saying that this week was a little heavy, but are any of these light? Taking these concepts that we hear all the time and changing the perspective on how we view them is never really easy. Sooo… Kingdom over Culture.

Let’s start with culture! Defined as “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.” Basically, what we look at, what we watch, what we deem as “in” or the “social norm.”

When we say Kingdom, we’re referring to the Kingdom of God and all things that exhibit the character of He who is placed on the inside of us. Truly living out our rhetoric, walking boldly in our purpose, being obedient to the call, all things we’ve already discussed.

So when we look at those two definitions, do we place Kingdom over Culture? And if not, why? Examine your life real quick. Do you still look around after “saying grace” or do you feel the need to quiet your worship music when other people come around? Everywhere we look we’re told that the Kingdom isn’t “as cool.” Yeah it’s okay to believe in God, but if it requires “too much” then it’s doing “too much”… but why? Who said that? Pop culture?

We have all of these standards, dress, rules, dances, music, and goals we ascribe to, but when is the last time you thought about, why? Who created your sense of culture when you weren’t UP? And what does the word (bible) say about these things?

This whole concept is pivitol to the UnPopular movement in the sense that it is EVERYTHING we stand for! Being the only one in a crowd and shamelessly admitting to your love of Christ, walking the paths less traveled, shining your light even in the midst of darkness! And though these things are wonderful we seek to build a community of believers who will walk WITH YOU! Yes we will still walk that scarcely traveled road, but we’ll walk it together, bringing along lights we have identified as our own equipped with the knowledge that we too have our own culture that is unique, because it is purely based in the KINGDOM!

So FAM, take a look at your life. Are you placing Kingdom over culture or the other way around. And if so, was it even a conscious decision on your part? I admonish you to search your hearts to find out… I love you all and I pray you have a wonderful weekend! This whole chat brought two scriptures to remembrance, so I leave you with this…

Romans 1:16 NLT
