Game Over

Hey Fam!

It’s Friday afternoon! You’ve pretty much made it to the weekend. I pray you all have been well since the last time we talked!

So my life is a bit of an oxymoron. I struggle constantly between two extremes seeking a balance that I’m not sure I’ll ever find, but every day I wake up ready to try again. For example, I’m highly rebellious. I don’t like being told what I can and cannot do. Defining strict lines only causes me to stand at the edge of the line, look the rule maker in the eye and ask, “what are you going to do if I cross it?” On the other hand, I often seek boundaries. I NEED them! I guess the only explanation I can offer about that is, lines are rigid, but boundaries, they can be moved, shaped, explored… changed.

A few months ago, my friend Adrianna and I were hanging out and I was complaining about how much time I spent playing a game, and in the same breath spoke of how mentally challenging and fun it was. She pointed out the collision and I basically laughed and agreed. Bottom line, the game is a distraction and as is the trend with most apps when people beat them, they simply add more levels. So we came up with a compromise… When I got to level 500 I had to delete the app from my phone. At first I was great with that compromise, seeing as how I was nowhere near 500… but as I hit 400… then 425… then 450… the thought of deleting the app became even more real! (As I’m writing this, I understand that some of you may think this isn’t a big deal, so just substitute my app for whatever has been a distraction in your life for the last few months!)

Distractions only have the power that we give them. If we remain focused on the task at hand then they entertain themselves, if we lose focus, then we entertain the distraction. And often times we know what’s a distraction and what isn’t, but the pleasure we get from entertaining the distraction SEEMS to outweigh the reward of staying focused. Ultimately though, you must decide if what you’re working towards is worth the work of pushing through the noise…

Anyways, I pray that you all have a fantastic weekend! I love you all and I leave you with this…

1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.
