Today is Monday January 2nd. Happy New Year! I pray that everyone had a fantastic holiday season!
I was totally going to post this Thursday, but with me just getting back in town and jumping head first back into “reality” I didn’t (grrr) so I changed it up a little and here we are…
Sooo 2016 ehhh… there’s so much to be said for last year. Socially, I kind of feel like last year was a disaster. So many senseless murders, so much hate and brutality, so many hours of watching my sisters and brothers slaughtered… really nothing about this is new, except with the feature to go live, we were spoon fed violence on a level never seen before. Choking back feelings, creating hashtags, fighting for things that should already be… it took months for me to realize that watching the constant roll of gunshot stained bodies wasn’t good for my mental health… and on the surface you want to say good riddance, wash your hands of the experience and just be finished with it…
Although, personally… 2016 was kind of incredible… sure there were goals that I failed to accomplish, and not every situation went my way… on the surface. Last year I (and my team ☺) launched the Unpopular Movement, had the opportunity to speak and connect to youth near and far, published a BOOK, hosted our first open mic, AND had the opportunity to feature spoken word on a song (set to be released early this year). We ministered spoken word at countless places and we learned, we grew, we prayed, CONSTANTLY. I connected on another level to people who have increased who I am as a person, as a woman, as a child of God… and when I look at 2016 through that lense, it was incredible. Like I said before, there were shortcomings, but that only let’s me know that it wasn’t for me then. Are those things for me now *shrugs shoulders* we’ll see… together lol
It’s always easy to talk about the negative stuff, what didn’t happen, what should have happened but I implore you to search a little harder. Crack open those layers of hurt and see how far you have came from this day last year… it might surprise you… and if that fails, then I’ll say this… you are still breathing, you made it to the new year and if there are things about your life that you want changed… it’s STILL POSSIBLE!
Anyways Fam, I pray that you all have an incredible week. Go into this season with fresh perspective and new eyes. Seek to see more than the surface. Pray. Grind. Love. The world needs it now more than ever. I love you all and I leave you with this…
2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NLT
16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Thanks again, God bless and One love.
