From my Younger Self

Hey Fam,

I hope you have thoroughly enjoyed your day thus far and I pray that you all had a wonderful weekend!

Recently I was going through some old writings and I found a letter I wrote a while back (probably about 5 years ago)… I don’t think that this letter was to anyone specific, but I wrote it nonetheless. In the letter, I spoke of comparisons between saying the words “I Love You,” but not backing up those words with action. About how we can program ourselves into saying one thing, while we truly feel another.

In the letter, I ask the reader to imagine being trapped inside with one person who says they love you and then only having tunnel vision towards that one person, only to look up and realize that nothing is the same. That when you entered it was a sunny (cliché) day with pretty flowers growing around and when you finally look up the rain is pouring down rapidly, thunder claps loudly, and your feet are muddy. Then I simply ask if that same person is still even there.

I go on to say (and I’ll quote this time) “Don’t get me wrong, love is beautiful, but I hate seeing the vision of the word tainted beyond all recognition.
Individuals throw the word around like a baseball team at batting practice, crushing the meaning as it’s hit into a thousand tiny pieces.
I don’t want to hear someone say they love me; those words have no meaning to me. I want to see it in their actions until there is no denying that fact.”

Once again, I have no idea what prompted me to write this unaddressed letter, but here’s what I think younger me was hinting at… when you tell someone that you love them, make sure you mean it. You can talk a good game, but when it’s time for action, you need to be able to back it up.

So my response to my younger self… you are absolutely right, but you have so much more to learn from life lol…we all have our idea of what a perfect love is. Of what it should look like, of what it should feel like. What it shouldn’t look like is a comparison of someone else’s lifestyle. Love who you are, Love what you do, and make sure the love you willingly hand out is true.

I LOVE you all and I pray that you all have a blessed week. I leave you with this…

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.
