Hey fam!
So this weekend was long and short and tiring and incredible all rolled into one! And I LOVED it!!! I’m so proud of One Accord! Now don’t get me wrong… I’m always proud of them, even when they make me shake my head lol but witnessing the growth and God in them makes me truly happy!
So a few weeks ago we talked about meaning hello and how are you doing when you say it… about making individuals feel like they’re being heard, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Well this is sort of on my mind again… but a little different.
When we see people, we tend to see what they want us to see, not how they really feel. I read about a guy once who was struggling with bipolar disorder and decided that suicide was best. Once he got to the bridge he decided to wait for a while to see if anyone would talk to him. The only person that said anything was a tourist wanting her picture taken. He took the picture then proceeded to jump. Once he jumped he realized that he didn’t want to die and began praying. He tilted his head back and hit the water in a seated position. Shattering a few vertebrae but surviving non the less.
The Golden Gate Bridge is the second in bridge suicide averaging 20 successful attempts per year and 98% of jumpers die on impact. From the time you jump there is an average time of 3 to 4 seconds before water impact.
A few things can be learned from this… one, it’s never too late for God! Two, there needs to be better suicide prevention strategies for that bridge. And three, if someone would have shared a kind word with him, maybe he wouldn’t have jumped. Point is… one kind word can go a long way to saving someone else’s life. The only glimpse of God they may ever see is the God in you. So be kind, be thoughtful, and spread love!
Sorry to get so heavy on you this afternoon! But in the words of Royce Lovett “God is love, and love is real.” Or 1 John 4:8 contains a similar (kinda) message
I hope you all have a lovely week! And I leave you with this…
Proverbs 16:24 (NLT)
24 Kind words are like honey—
sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Thanks again, God bless and One love.
