Komplex Simplicity

Hey Fam,

It’s Thursday afternoon, and I pray that you all are well. I hope your week has been fulfilling and purposeful.
I am beyond thankful to you all that have been rocking with me over the course of this 2 + year journey, no matter where you entered. The fact that you are still in the room means you still believe in the message and for that I am extremely humbled! Let’s get started!

The “Over it” series began as a few cleverly stated t-shirt designs created by myself and a few of my friends. As with all of my t-shirts, it was meant to spark recognition (to the world), communicate (from one believer to another), and to encourage conversation (with everyone). As one idea flowed to the next, here we are with lifestyle over rhetoric.

Let’s unpack that statement though…what this means is, how I’m living my life should speak volumes before I ever open my mouth. If you’ve ever search the dictionary for the word rhetoric, one version includes the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. If I have to be persuasive in conversation for you to believe I am who I say I am, isn’t that a little deceitful?
We should never have to convince anyone of who we are.

Example, have you ever clicked on someone’s social media profile and in their bio there’s some form of scripture or indicator that there a practicing Christian (for lack of a better term — we’ll get into religion later [in the series]). Then you scroll down at the content and none of it points back or can attest to the fact that they are a believer. That’s not judgment, and not saying that you have to count the number of times you post something that says Jesus, but what are your posts reflecting if not light, if not life.

And to put this back on myself, if I say I’m Komplex Simplicity, writer and you’ve never seen me write anything. If I say I’m Komplex Simplicity, believer of Christ and that’s not reflected in my actions. If I say I’m Komplex, poet and you’ve never seen or heard me do poetry, how can you believe these things? How do you believe me?

So when we say we’re living a certain type of Lifestyle, when we say that we love a certain type of way, when we say that we have these characteristics inside of us, but they have yet to show themselves… that’s when we need to ask ourselves, what are we doing wrong? And not even that, but we need to take accountability for our lack of action in those areas so… Do more, Say less, and know that our actions will speak far louder than words ever could.

So when your friend is an artist and you say, “I support you”, then show real support. If you say that you love someone, then show them honest love.

Anyway, be who you are, feel the need to say less, and don’t feel like you have to constantly voice who you are. That’s like the 18 year old who constantly voices how “grown” they are in a whining voice. I love you all and I pray that you have an incredible weekend. I leave you with this…
