The Things we Say

Hey Fam! It’s Thursday morning and soon we’ll all be up and about. I hope you all have had a great week thus far and I pray you have a great day today!

Growing up, most of us were taught about what we can and cannot say. In school we were taught that we had “free speech” (I won’t even get into why I have quotations around that lol). In church we were taught to do unto others as we want done to ourselves, and at home we were basically told, don’t say anything if you don’t have anything nice to say.

I’ve been seeing many post about the shooting in Orlando, and it has me highly troubled. Most are about remembering the lives that were lost and a few were super religious, basically condemning everyone involved to hell, along with Christians who are sympathizing with the situation.

First of all, I find that highly judgmental, and secondly I think they missed the part where a lot of people feel sympathy for the random act of violence that took place, not from the lifestyles of the individuals involved (that’s another story too).

All I’m saying is that we have to do better. Technology has given individuals these platforms that allow messages to reach millions of people at the click of a button, but what is the use if it only causes a slew of angry words tossed back and forth. I was taught this, “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way.” 1 Peter 3:15‭ NLT

I understand that you(I) won’t always agree with other people’s opinions, but I also understand that I don’t live the same lifestyle as other people. In addition to that, I didn’t always live this lifestyle. So why would I use what I believe to make other people feel small or judged or less than… that is what bothers me. Individuals like that is what kept me from having a relationship with Christ for so long, so it hurts when I see people doing it to others. We have to do better.

Anyway, I pray that you all have a wonderfully blessed day! I love you all and I leave you with this…

Proverbs 13:3 NLT

Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.

Thanks again, God bless and One love.
